Formula V1 Goes To Japan! Three-driver lineup to banner PH flag in Suzuka race


Japanese motorsports powerhouse and race car manufacturer West Racing Cars has officially entered its all- Filipino lineup for the final leg of the 2023 Suzuka Clubman Race, scheduled for December 2-3 at the iconic Suzuka Circuit in Japan.


The Philippines will be represented by a formidable trio of top Formula V1 Challenge champions, led by defending overall and PRO class champion Milo Rivera. Joining him is 2022 AM Class Champion Bryan Co and adding to the prowess is the inclusion of 2021 AM Class champion Joaquin Garrido, marking the first time three Filipinos will simultaneously participate in this prestigious race.


Rivera emphasized the honor of representing the country and highlighted the team's commitment to mutual support both on and off the track. “It’s always an immense honor and privilege to represent your country, and we will definitely promise to give our all. Although we will be racing to the checkered flag individually, our job is to also help and uplift each other throughout the way.


Graced with West Racing's invitation to headline the event, the three Pinoy drivers will be behind the wheel of the latest Vita race cars, complete with comprehensive race services provided by the Japanese manufacturer and race team. Garrido expressed his excitement, noting the surreal experience of racing at the historic Suzuka Circuit, a track embedded in Formula 1's annual calendar. Co echoed this sentiment, expressing gratitude for the unexpected opportunity to race abroad on a Formula 1 track. “I’m extremely thankful to all who’ve made this possible and as I will definitely give my best come race weekend, it will also be an experience I shall savor very

much.”


The Philippine Team racers - Rivera, Garrido, and Co – alongside Rainy who have joined the grid for Vita of Asia are set to depart Manila for Japan on November 30, with preparations and practices commencing upon arrival. Qualifying sessions are scheduled for December 2 (Saturday), leading up to the main race on December 3 (Sunday).

The Tuason Racing Formula V1 Challenge Series is a single-seater racing championship that uses the VITA-01 chassis, powered by a 110-hp Toyota Vios 1NZ engine. The series is designed to provide a platform for racers to further develop their skills whilst competing at a high level.


Locally, the series is currently supported by GT Radial, Motul Philippines, OMP, FASA, TOPTUL, and West Racing Cars; with official media partners: The Philippine Daily Inquirer, AutoDeal, C!, AutoCar Philippines, Skramble Media, Time Attack Manila, and Wheels Philippines.
