From May 21-24, 2019 Hyundai Asia Resources, Inc. (HARI), the official distributor of Hyundai
passenger cars and commercial vehicles in the Philippines, participated in the Land Transportation Office’s 2019 Motor Show held to celebrate the agency’s 107th anniversary.
The event’s theme, e-DRIVE na @ 107, was chosen to emphasize the agency’s push to modernize public transport in the Philippines. The e stood for “electronic,” while DRIVE was an acronym for Driver’s License, Road Safety, Inspection, Vehicle Registration, and Enforcement.
HARI President and CEO Ma. Fe Perez-Agudo said, “Hyundai stands with the LTO and with the Administration’s admirable plan for the modernization of public transport in the Philippines. To show our all-out support, we brought our two vehicles that are best-suited to solve the Filipino’s mass transport or business needs.”
HARI showcased two vehicles at the Motor Show held at LTO’s East Avenue compound in Quezon City, Hyundai's Class-1 Modern Jeepney and the all-new Hyundai Reina.
Hyundai’s Challenger Models
Hyundai's Class-1 Modern Jeepney utilizes the tried and tested H-100 light truck platform unlike other Class-1 designs that predominantly use multi-cab as base. This means higher capacity, more space, and importantly, a safer ride. It is driven by a 2.5-liter, Euro-IV CRDi engine which offers proven fuel efficiency, reliability, and cleaner emissions, and promises better stability and safety, thanks to an optimized height to width ratio. Measuring 4,500 mm (length) x 1750 mm (width) x 1,500 mm (height) and weighing roughly 3,000 kilograms with the cab attached, the Hyundai Class-1 Modern Jeepney can comfortably seat 13 (12 passengers + 1 driver) and features a cashless payment system (Beep card), side-facing seats, and conveniently located handles; and, what used to be seen as “add-ons,” are now basics--Wi-Fi, LCD Monitor, GPS tracking, CCTV cameras, and a speed limiter—that further assure commuter convenience and safety while on the road.
The Hyundai Reina features a stylish yet affordable rendition of Hyundai’s design philosophy,
Fluidic Sculpture 2.0. Its hexagonal grille and flowing body lines help this sedan stand out on the road. Reina marks Hyundai’s strong return to the Segment A market, redefining and bringing new energy to the PC A segment with more space, more safety and convenience features, better styling, and improved fuel efficiency to suit the needs of Transport Network Vehicle Service (TNVS) operators.
Ms. Agudo added, “Hyundai has participated in several LTO events and worked closely with the agency with the goal of making our affordable and efficient mobility solutions available to the Filipinos who need them. We will continue to develop and offer vehicle options that help promote the country’s growth by getting goods and people where they need to go.”
