Now, normally, you would define an espresso as a strong kind of coffee that would help you survive the day whenever you’re lacking the energy you need for your everyday activities. For people who love coffee, a shot of this is their best friend who’s with them every step of the way. Well, I am here to tell you that there’s more to that. What if I told you that your “best friend” or your “usual cup of joe” can also be your partner on the road? Thats right! If you’re looking for a shot of thrilling spirited driving in a small and agile package, then the Suzuki S-Presso is the right flavor of coffee you’re looking for.
I’m not gonna lie, it’s pretty easy falling in love with this little fellow. If you’re a simple man like myself who isn’t that much on the technological side of things or some cool gadgets that comes with the car but more on focusing on the performance, reliability, and efficiency, then the S-Presso can also be a perfect fit for you.
To start things of, the S-Presso is a small hatchback that actually has a very satisfying amount of ground clearance for its class and competition. The S-Presso’s well defined exterior looks such as its front grill feels and actually looks like a very angry, tiny dog along with its bumpers, headlights, and taillight designs that stands out above the crowd. Not only that, it’s side body was actually pushed upwards as well in order to give the car a high center of gravity so that people can see you zip around those corners with ease.
As we dive into the interior, it’s pretty amazing that given the car’s “small size”, it is really spacious on the inside. It can seat up to 5 passengers comfortably with the right amount of leg room and seats that doesn’t make you feel crowded on the inside at all. It’s amazing how Suzuki managed to maximize the interior space of the S-Presso without affecting its adorable size.
What makes the interior unique is that everything you need is actually on the centre panel. From your speedometer, gas meter, odometer, down to your infotainment system, window switches, and knobs. The only let down for me was how “trippy” the info-tainment system was as it isn’t that much friendly to use.
But don’t let that distract you from the fact that driving this car is such a joy.
Underneath the hood lies a very spirited 1.0L, 3-cylinder, naturally aspirated engine that packs around 67hp and 90Nm torque along with a 5-speed manual transmission that really feels light and fun to drive.
As I said a couple of paragraphs ago, it is pretty easy falling inlove with this car. Sure, it isn’t as glamourous or even up to speed with the “latest technology” of standard cars today, but what won my heart with this car is it’s simplicity, no drama at all. It’s not very thrilling to drive, nor will it encourage you to push it. But Suzuki has now been on a streak for making cars that you just appreciate, not just because it’s the latest or jam packed with technology or power.
In fact, driving the S-Presso on the expressway is quite nerve-wrecking, it sways when you reach 100kmh but really you wouldn’t mind. You feel light. Spirited even. For the short amount of time we’ve had this car, I guarantee you, the smiles on our faces just wouldn’t disappear as it was that much fun to drive.
