Subcompact vehicles make much more sense these days since it’s the most accessible way to move about in cities (unless public transportation is drastically improved). These pocket sized cars are popular among consumers since it is made to do double if not, triple duty and are ready to pile as much into the smallest space at hand. With a wide range of available hatches from different manufacturers, the Mazda 2 is quite the contender.
So what’s up with the Mazda 2 Midnight Edition?
Exterior
The attention on the detailing – red accents from the rear spoiler down to the rims – on a black Mazda while featuring the signature Kodo design gives off a sporty and sophisticated look at the same time, making the Midnight Edition stand out from the fleet of cars on the road.
Interior
Everything inside the car looks and feels classy, Mazda did not fall short on selecting premium materials on this one. It has those sleek leather seats which I find comfortable sitting down on, well maybe it is because I'm 5’4” with a petite build. Meanwhile, the back seats are spacious at a glance but if you're relatively bigger than me, then the leg room wouldn’t be enough.
The dashboard features a Head-Up Display or HUD, which is kind of a standard for all Mazdas, that rises once you press the push-button ignition. So you could easily know if you're a little bit over the speed limit since the tachometer is just within your line of sight.
Driving Experience
The Mazda 2 is powered by a 1.5-liter Skyactiv-G engine yielding 106hp and 139Nm of torque. Driving and maneuvering this car around the metro, to quote Ariana Grande, made me feel like a dangerous woman. It has a quick power delivery and a bit of gruff exhaust tone that can make anyone excited enough to drive this hatch and zoom into the open. Plus, the suspension on this car is to match, it is almost as if you can’t feel those poor surfaces on the road.
Final Thoughts
I have nothing else to say but I REALLY LOVE DRIVING THIS CAR! The only problem that I encountered was it took me some time before I got the hang of navigating the infotainment through the command control rotary dial. Other than that, this car is a win for me.
Mazda 2 Premium Series is priced at Php 1,085,000
