With the rise of MPVs or Multi-Purpose Vehicles in the Philippine market, it is only evident that nowadays, practicality and versatility are two of the top things people consider when buying a new vehicle. In an attempt to satisfy this growing demand, Mitsubishi decided to enter the competition by introducing the Mitsubishi Xpander. Which was set to rival Suzuki Ertiga, Toyota Rush, and Honda BR-V to name a few.

Since its debut in 2018 up to August of 2019, a total of 25,442 units were sold nationwide. And despite a seasonal decline on other models in the industry during the second quarter of last year, sales of the Xpander constantly improved.

Indeed, this seven-seater vehicle is well-received by Filipino consumers and continues to dominate in its segment.

Here I have listed a few reasons (based on experience) why this multiple purpose car is admired by consumers:

1. Distinguishing Looks

Let’s be honest, not everyone is a fan of how the Xpander looks especially the front fascia. The unconventional and strong features may come off as too much for some. However, one cannot deny that the distinctive appearance of this car is what sets it apart from all the other MPVs in the market. It is modern, refreshing, and sure to stand out alongside the traditional and rather unexciting exterior design of its competitors.

2. Fuel Economy

Taking pride for being fuel efficient, the Xpander does not disappoint. Per experience, particularly out in the highway, it registered about 19km/L while being driven at approximately 80km/h. That’s sufficiently good especially if you are using the Xpander to and from places every day or for going on long road trips with family and friends.

Keep in mind that this car carries a 1.5L four cylinder petrol engine with a max power of 104hp mated to a four-speed automatic.

3. Functional and Spacious Cabin

The Xpander offers generous space for seven people thanks to its long body and wheelbase length. However, legroom in the third row bench is only comfortable enough if the seats in the second row slide forwards. Aside from that, it offers several options in creating any kind of balance between passenger and cargo space that you require.

A number of cup holders and compartments can be found all over the cabin for extra storage. Also, power outlets conveniently placed in all three rows

4. Value for Money

Starting at 999,000 (GLX variant), you get a reasonably spacious and practical interior with a responsive 7-inch touchscreen head unit. Combine that with its ride comfort and safety features, and you get an MPV that stands out fairly well. From my viewpoint, the Xpander sits competitively with its other budget-priced seven-seater rivals.
